I agree with the many who say you've done nice work visually - good shots and decent character work. I keep getting bumped up on the story; it's not intriguing to me that a girl would ask her boyfriend if he remembers how they met, and thus the story grows long because I didn't buy the premise. By the end, I'm a bit checked out, so I don't care if he remembers something different - it seems obvious they have no business being together at all.

But in spite of that, nicely done! The only thing I'd recommend in your motion is to watch the arcs - it's a bit jumpy overall.

Hope that helps!

CartoonCoffee responds:

Thanks for the review, I'll be keeping a close eye on my arcs for next time!

Cute!

A lot of the movement seems just for movement's sake, not motivated by character need and a bit over-the-top.

Clever way to make Thanksgiving Feast into Batman.

Would have liked a more clever conclusion, Batman having to use weaponry available to him on the table and be swinging from the table itself to get the Joker. The Joker dodging several attacks because he already had anticipated them.

But just jumping on him was a bit lame. I'd rather have seen ten seconds of set-up and a minute of fighting.

Well-voiced as well.

Trying to keep his emotions in check is a decent idea, sort of plays off the Mark Ruffalo version. Hulk isn't a caveman or Cookie Monster, though, so that part's a bit weak. I'd imagine that if he talks at all, he can talk normally.

The weakest bit is the part that really sets him off. I was expecting him to go crazy at some point, but maybe Wonder Woman got a copy, or the manager was keeping one for himself. Maybe he has an encounter with the REAL Smash Bros. Could even be he stubs his toe or does something stupid while trying to act like the Smash Bros. since he can't play.

But I didn't think the membership should do it. Just my opinion.

Also would like to see it lip-synced at least, not necessarily rendered in full but at least that much.

Overall good work - keep it up!

Very nice drawing!

Not sure why the scary music? It seems to mis-match what you are trying to do? But actually I'm not sure what you're trying to do. I thought the voice guy was going to attack the sheriff, morph into something else, show some grotesque feature or blood from some part of his body, or something else. It seemed the best option would have been to turn into a monster, similar to the opening scene of the Twilight Zone movie with Dan Akroyd.

Also concerned that the lip sync is so far off? it's got to be half a second or so.

I'd like to see your skills used in a little bit stronger story, is what I guess I'm saying.

Good luck and keep going!

Very well done! My opinion is that many of the shots are way too long, and I get the point way ahead of the next cut. Worse, I beat you to the punchline by miles, and there was nothing surprising at all.

You've got a very good sense of design and mood, so I'd recommend spending some time on the scripting side, really thinking through all possibilities and finding the one that really rings as both surprising and true.

Good luck and keep going!

Just for the record, I taught nine years in the US and China, and I never met a teacher who would do anything anywhere near this; also the school board would be a bit more reasonable in every case I've seen, and the teacher would have stopped the rumor way sooner.

That said, really nice work! Good voices, good drawings, intriguing music.

Walks are a bit funny.

Also, I'd try to get the story moving more quickly. I'll bet it could be told in 1/2 or 2/3 of the time.

Cute!

Some decent poses and nice drawings!

I'd watch the squash and stretch - the volume keeps changing.

Also lip sync is off in many spots.

Hope this is useful!

haha yah for some reason when I exported the flash files the sound would load faster than the video so everything was off by about a second. Trying to fix everything was a nightmare

It feels a ilttle inexperienced but has a lot going for it. Voices are half-decent, drawings and backgrounds are simple and easy to understand.

Future suggestions: I'd try to think about movement between keyframes, even selecting one of the 12 animation principles (e.g., Ease in / ease out) and seeing if you can't carry it through the piece.

Also, there's no reason for these exact puns - I wish they meant something specifically to the characters so that the characters had a drama of their own.

Hope that's useful; would love to see more advanced work from you!

mPoon responds:

thanks for the encouraging feedback, this was something my friends and I joked around during a get together and we thought it would be cool to make an animation out of it. But now I'm working on a new animation that has more of a story line to it.

Your comments were definitely useful and I will take it into consideration for my next animation piece!

Obvious skill in the drawing and animation; sometimes the animation didn't seem to know what to do (e.g., his movements on the bridge are a bit erratic).

Also some creative ideas, like the play on "Lady and the Tramp" ending up with his eating the other person.

It's kind of a single punchline drawn out too long. I'd love to see him get into danger, something like the progression in "Green Eggs and Ham" where the chase to give the man the meal brings them on a crazy adventure.

In this case, there's no rising action, so I tend to lose interest part way through.

Would love to see more of your work, and I hope these comments help!

KidneyJohn responds:

They do help because I do plan on making more of these.

There needs to be some leniency because of the time frame, but a few things I'd think about for future pieces:

1. I wouldn't make him so ignorant. It's not appealing, at least not to me, when a character undergoes something that we all saw within the first few seconds;
2. The phone call, I'd give a hint in there of some sort;
3. One interesting thing was when his whole head opens to express boredom. I'd like to see more interesting things like this;
4. Voice acting was not bad at all;
5. Areas like overlap and extreme stretch in the hand at the elevator seem inconsistent;
6. If there was no director, I'd recommend having one for consistency's sake;
7. Overall, a decent piece given the time frame.

Hope that is useful!
